Resources (Ann, Lisa)
  • get the right info at the right time
  • have empathy
  • connect with others (around the world)
  • think globally (no longer about your home market)
  • start using tools (we already have) to communicate/participate world-wide
  • use “site:” command in Google
  • redefine reading
  • turn classrooms into global communication centers
  • re-design our libraries (can’t just add computers to the space)
  • stop bolting technology on top of current design and expecting major improvements
  • Staff development - bring two kids along too (accountability)
  • as teachers, become open-minded
  • read CIPA (see Resources column), allow teachers to have full access
  • design workshops around content that teachers like to teach
  • know about filtering the Internet
  • start with whatever your teachers love to teach and build tech use around it (don’t start w/ tech)
  • employ tools such as YouTube tutorials to take care of the low-level teacher tasks (skills transfer) & use your time working 1-on-1 w students
  • employ the tools we have to collect data to drive your instruction
  • flip: what used to happen at home now happens in class and vice versa
  • understand that all students don’t need the same homework each evening
  • let students design tutorials to help others (screencasts, i.e.
  • “unteach” - realize the misconceptions
  • take notes collaboratively
  • automating v/s informating
  • just do ONE thing now/don’t try to do it all
  • All students should be using Diigo.
  • See who is linking to your district site
  • use the site: command
  • use the link: command; Instructions
  • If one thing to do after today - do screencasts.
  • Create custom google search engine for district, subject areas, grade levels, etc.
  • A technology vision is important in education
  • plan for global connection in our classrooms
  • Develop the skill of empathy in our students
  • Open paths to collaboration with teachers and classrooms around the world
  • Teach students to be literate
  • allow students to keep teachers accountable for their staff development by including them
  • Redesign staff development
  • flip the classroom/ lecture for homework, practice at school with teacher input/collaboration
  • free the students
  • start informating our students (process change)
  • students designing tutorials
  • twitter must be involved in all learning activities
  • do one thing at a time-don't get overwhelmed
  • OR be willing to be overwhelmed and to carve out what you can do
  • annotate webpages, organize information digitally
  • utilize the country codes in google to research culturally accurate info
  • Check validity of online sources
  • Google is only the gateway to the web it's not an answer to every question
